Lillian L. Lane, 1915-2003, Lincoln
Lillian L. Lane, 88, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the Lincoln
Community Nursing Home.
She was born in Lincoln on April 14, 1915, the daughter of Joseph Franklin
and Eva Marie Johnson Lane.
Ms. Lane grew up in Benton County. She earned her teaching certificate at
Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, and received a bachelor's degree in
education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. She was an
elementary teacher and taught at the Benton County R-9 School District in
Warsaw, Benton County R-1 School District in Cole Camp and one-room schools in
Fordney, Big Buffalo and Tuscumbia. She taught children for 42 years and worked
as a substitute teacher for three years after retiring.
She was a self-taught musician, and played the piano and fiddle for many
dances and community events. She also taught piano lessons for many years. She
loved flowers, and her yard stands as a testimony to her "green
thumb" with many plantings and flower beds.
She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Lincoln, taught
Sunday school, and served in various other capacities to the benefit of the
church.
Surviving are a brother, Lee Lane, of Smithton; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Cecil Lane and Lawrence
"Prince" Lane; and a sister, Georgia Marie McCandless.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in
Lincoln, with the Rev. Wayne Isgriggs officiating. Burial will be in the
Lincoln Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lincoln Community Nursing
Home or the First Baptist Church in care of the Davis-Miller Funeral Home.
